Tour on Taylor's University Gym [before official launch]

I'm many of you have heard about the new Taylor's Gym opened yesterday. I couldn't resist not to drive all the way there even though I am still on break. Somehow, I felt like I just needed to show you a little tour for the place.

So I went over and I met 2 helpful trainers(Issac and Calvin) in some Q&A as well as a tour of the gym.

After that, a fee of Rm15 (per month i think, there will be package of one year) will be charged. *an online form might be the only way to register*

Only for Taylor's staff and students, no outsider is allowed even if you plan to pay for the gym.

Operating hours:

Monday-Fridays 7am-11pm

Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays 7am-7pm

Closed for selected public holidays: New Year, CNY, Raya, Deepavali & Christmas. *who knows, if we win football again, it will be close too....jk :)*

For personal trainers is about rm80 per session (TBC), there will be package coming as well.

One of the main reasons for me being there was to check if there is any towel facilities or soaps and stuff. ZERO. There is nothing, so be prepared to bring your own Towels and bathing things.

According to them, there will be an official launch next Thursday (16/2/2012) probably in the morning but I am unsure about the details.

Issac- answered my Questions

I am happy that they have lockers available *limited* *super limited*

But I am a bit disappointed that we have to pay Rm2 each time we open or forgot something from the lockers. I would prefer that they provided us lockers which we can probably rent for a day. They still could clear out the lockers daily. That would have been a better choice.

I like that it is huge, I do hope that they would put some benches and more lockers to fill this area.

Good amount of shower room and toilet. I wished that they will put some hooks in the showers so that no one would play a prank on us if we only hang our clothes on the hanger outside the door. I like how the shower door looks really like you are in Uni Gym and stuff (like in movies) but I placed my hands behind the door, I feel like it is tiny bit transparent for me. So warning, do not go too close to the door when your naked.

I loved the big mirrors along the taps though, there is no long, full body mirror anywhere! At least put it in the girl bathroom, we will appreciate it much!

Pool, common. The infinity pool idea didn't turned out really well.

Smart of them to put showers out near the pool :)

The stairs to the studio

Little more machines at the upper floor facing the parking lot and the exit of the school. So you can make your decision to go home when you see the amount of cars lining up to exit the school or to stalk on the girl/guy of your dreams car to see if he/she left campus. :p

The studio, I like it, quite spacious. With mirrors!
*So I've heard that the classes will all be free. Schedules will be out by next week*

Some equipments for studio sessions. Please place a big Rattan Hula-Hoop in this as well, it is very good for the abs area for girls :D

Loreal Brandstorm 2012

Loreal Brandstorm is a creative & interactive marketing competition for undergraduate students throughout the world in their final two years of University. This unique marketing competition had been organised for the 8th year in Malaysia and 19th year globally.

It provides students the opportunity to take on the role as marketing brand managers to launch or revamp a product line of an existing Loreal brand, develop a long-term international marketing including packaging and communication campaign.

Few months back, they started recruiting people in teams of 3. If they were qualified to go to the next round, a briefing was held with the next task of pre-case study. They were asked to submit their presentation slides before the 22nd December 2012.

Teams were then called for the preliminary round presentation on the 30th & 31st January 2012. Now they are left with 23 teams for the Semi-finals.

I started of with Foundation in Communication and I never regretted taking this course that led me to my 3 years degree course in Communication and Media Management. I am almost at the end of my journey as a University student and just like any other young adults, it is exciting yet anxious about what's next in our life. 'Outstanding' rating on MyQuest

Only three out of 210 private colleges were awarded the ‘Tier 6: Outstanding’ rating

Subang Jaya: Taylor’s College, one of Malaysia’s oldest and most established private institutions of higher learning, was awarded the highest rating of 'Tier 6: Outstanding' in the College-Based Category on the Malaysian Quality Evaluation System for Private Colleges (MyQUEST) 2010/2011, by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (MOHE). In addition, the College also achieved a 6-star rating in another two cluster-based categories, namely ‘General Programmes’ and ‘International Students’.

With a rich heritage spanning over 42 years, Taylor’s College has played a significant role in shaping the nation’s education landscape and the development of the youth of the world to take their productive place as leaders in the global community.

“We are truly honoured to have been awarded the highest rating of 'Tier 6: Outstanding', in the Malaysian Quality Evaluation System for Private Colleges (MyQUEST) 2010/2011, by the Ministry of Higher Education. This award is a feather in our cap and a seal of excellence on the quality of our pre-university education,” said Mr Lim Tou Boon, President of Taylor’s College.

MyQuest 2010/2011 measures the quality of a private college according to its ‘Input’ (quality of students and resources), ‘Output’ (programme recognition and graduate recognition), and the Quality Management System of the college.

Under the certification, Malaysia’s private colleges are classified into six tiers, namely Tier 6 (Outstanding), Tier 5 (Excellent), Tier 4 (Very Good), Tier 3 (Good), Tier 2 (Satisfactory) and Tier 1 (Poor).

Out of a total of 210 private colleges in Malaysia that were audited, only three or 1.4% of the colleges managed to attain the six-star rating, while 20 colleges (9.5%) attained a five-star rating, and 60 (28.6%) attained four stars.

Have you heard of AIESEC?

Everytime when there is a recruitment drive, I will hear students calling 'JOIN AIESEC!' This group of people must be very 'gang ho' in their society.

I am sure most of you have already heard about AIESEC as they are a very big organisation not only in Malaysia but also internationally. AIESEC is the world's largest youth-run leadership organisation and it has over 60 years of experience in developing high potential youths into global minded responsible leaders.

I asked a few of my friends who joined AIESEC and they agree that this programme gives a life-changing experience to each of their members as what they do provide an impact to the society.

They mainly focus on 5 categories of projects such as HIV/AIDS, teach a language, environment sustainability, cultural understanding and social development. Students will work with NGOs, schools or even charities on the front line! The duration of the project ranges from 6-12 weeks.

Such an amazing organisation and for a good cause as well as perfect for building good character in students. Of course, Taylor's will not miss out on this!

What is it?

Life after CPU

CPU alumnus, Iksheeta Pramesh Shah shares about life as a second-year psychology and human resource management student at the University of Waterloo.

CPU definitely prepared me well for university life in Canada. Personally, I feel that CPU offers a wide variety of cultures, traditions and of course an extremely friendly environment! CPU is a sample of what the whole of Canada looks and feels like. With the 80% Canadian teacher ratio in Taylor’s College, it helped us understand what we will be encountering at university, before even getting here!

Life in Canada

The student life is amazing here in Canada. It is pretty safe to go out at night. The people are friendly and outgoing. The events and parties here are also huge fun. I got to network and meet a lot of people. The support of my friends here made it really easy for to me fit in.

The Way Forward

I would like to pursue a Masters in Psychology or go to Law school.

Have you ever wonder what would life be like if you could spend Christmas in those ever wonderful house with roof-top, trees and streets covered in pure white snow? The thought of cuddling into your bed with a cup of hot cocoa with little marshmallows gives me the constant sigh of 'oh well, its a dream'. It would be great if I could just have a week off from everything and spend my holidays there!

U Residence

I believe I have not really talk about our Taylor's University Lakeside Campus Residential call the U Residence. If you are an international student and you don't know anyone here in Malaysia, the best choice you have to temporarily stay in a place would be staying within the campus. Just take the minimum contract while you get settle, learn about our transportation system and the people here.

The best thing about staying in campus while you get settle is no hassling on wondering how you are going to get to campus? and trust me, whenever there is super long break time, you will appreciate that your room is just walking distance away.

I understand sometimes parents would like to tag along for a few days to see Malaysia and of course, make sure that their children is well taken care here. What Taylor's Lakeside did was having Ruemz Hotel. I gotten a tour of the hotel and it look pretty good. It is comparable to other classy hotels out there. It would be easier if your parents stayed in Taylor's hotel. :)

Next to U Residences and Board Walk is a chic and modern boutique hotel known as the Ruemz Hotel. Available for public bookings, the hotel has a lobby and 7 floors with 80 single and twin-sharing rooms with attached bathrooms, and one connecting room on every floor for families. There is also a restaurant serving meals throughout the day and a 24-hour mini mart. Ruemz Hotel is operated by a group of full-time employees and selected students from the School of Hospitality, Tourism & Culinary Arts.

Held on 17and 18 December 2011, the fair is a prestigious platform for the studentsof Taylor’s University’s School of Engineering (SOE) to showcase theirpotential, both in the aspects of inventiveness and leadership.

Asthe pinnacle of their pursuit for engineering ingenuity, the fair requiresstudents of SOE to apply all that they have learnt to conceive, design,implement and operate an engineering project of their own.

How to make Macaroon? Come learn from Taylor's

The Chef teaching is Chef Karam,, he is an amazing Dessert/Pastry Chef. I tried his cream puff once and I was hooked thinking that all Taylor's cream puff is as good as his handmade but unfortunately, sometimes their students creation are just not as good as his. :(

Macaroon is one of the expensive delight desserts and I feel sad that it is unfortunately one of my favourite desserts ever. Because it is so expensive, I carve for it. As well as because it so expensive, I tried to make my own. Turns out it became a 'Macoon' (my bf called it) instead of Macaroon. It didn't rise to have feet on them and it is not crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. It literally just became crunchy like a cookie. LOLs.

I mean, to have one of the best Chef teaching you on the art of making Macaroon and having everything provided to you in class. Why not give it a go? I mean even when you buy almond powder for this recipe, it will cost you a bom if you fail making them just like me. I think my almond powder is still laying somewhere in my cabinet. HAHAHAHA!

Best Architecture Campus gets to be in Movies?

It's true, not a lie. There were several times where Taylor's Lakeside Campus have been chosen to be a shooting location for many movies, advertisment and of course hehe, our own students assignments.

This is one scene from Orange Telegu Movie shot at Lakeside Campus.

There were some comments about the scene stating that "it was shot in Taylor's but the whole campus looks like it is crowded with only international students" *dang!* haha! I can assure you that on a usual day, you will see all the asian faces there. :D

The next few videos that I will be showing are videos produced my our very own Taylor's Students. They are not all necessarily taken in Lakeside but I do want to show you some of our talented young chaps. To know more about each video, do check them out on their youtube channel.

Tweet tweet, a little bird told me that you might just have missed Taylor's Open Day. I am here to give you a little sneak peak on what happened during Open day. :)

I managed to drop by Taylor's Subang Campus just to see how is everything going for them there.

If you don't already know, this is our Taylor's Subang Campus! It looks small in the picture but if I moved my camera on my left more, you would see more buildings for the students.

Inside of Subang's Multi purpose hall. They are quite packed here as I guess it's already after SPM and everyone is looking for a suitable course!

This table was awesome, haha, I mean if you actually round the table, there were 3 lecturers there counselling this mother and son.

If you take a look on the next few pictures, everyone's table seemed to be messy!

This could easily be the cleanest, the power of Ipad! :D New way of counselling, no need prospectus anymore, just email them straight.

Prospectus lining up in place of parents and students to pick up on their choice of courses. Just a little FYI, Taylor's College Subang Campus and Hartamas are only having Pre-U courses like SAM, CPU, A-level and IB. For other courses, do check it out at Taylor's University Lakeside Campus.

Some display on what all these Pre-U students have done, hehe, apparently they are not just geeks, Not stereotyping but what I have heard from all my other Pre-U student friends, they all would tell me all the horror stories of studying all night and all-day classes. You must be some super person to go though Pre-U.

While I was walking out of the MPH, "I hear PEOPLE SINGING!" I was actually goose hunting for the source of music and finally looked down and I see Little Christmas People... :D

So I rushed down and met them halfway at the Lecture Theatre hallway taking some pictures for you all to add a little Christmas feeling to this post. :)

Of course, me being me, I love putting load of stuff on my youtube channel. So I just have to record this down :) Play it for some christmas jinggle.

This is just a random picture that I think is true. Begin it if you dream of doing something. :)

Also, many times during open day we have talks going on. Many times, some parents will stay back and talk to the lecturers or speakers on specific issues if they are not very sure about anything.

After wandering around Subang, I made my way to Lakeside Campus to 'kepo' (busybody) just to see what's up there.

So if you are not interested in taking Pre-U subjects, you can always opt of Foundation programmes that leads you straight to Degree once completed. Foundation are great if you already know what you want to do. This will help you to be specific in what you will be learning without the need to take extra unnecessary subjects that have nothing to do with your choice of course.

I was like "OMG I Want to DO that!" I always loved Taylor's Culinary Team as they are just one of the most amazing people with high level of creativity. They are the only ones that can play with food!

I guess because Taylor's purchased load of desktop from Dell so it is somewhat buying them in a bunch or wholesale price.

I Thank You Taylor's for trying to help their students. At least now they know that we are lacking of computers to use! :P hehe.

I think a laptop for each student to use in this era is really important as we will not only want to use it for entertainment (of course), networking (of course) but also to be able to enjoy the convenience of doing our work any where and any place we want. Especially when it comes to group study or group work, you can bring it anywhere around campus to do your discussion.

Everything of yours is in there. Sharing might cause lost of data or essay or report that you have been cracking your head for days.

If many of you don't know that ever since the Lakeside Campus started, Taylor's had always envision a non-smoking campus. However, they realise that it doesn't cut it anymore, people are still smoking around campus.

To refresh some of your memory, when the main gate near the housing area was opened, that is where everyone did their smoking business. Some of us did thought that at least they are going outside and smoke BUT it's our front gate, what kind of reputation are we presenting?

Then it got worst when the front gate closes due to complains by the residence are that area. Smokers have no where else to go but to smoke within campus. Mostly at Syopz the commercial block area but still, because it is not specify which area is smoking or non-smoking zone, smokers have a liberty to smoke almost anywhere. I honestly don't blame them as much as I dislike smokers.

So recently when I was back to school for CF, this definitely caught my attention. Other than me, someone else already blogged about it! So I decided to just steal some pictures from Shannon Chow's blog.

Have you heard about the new course that Taylor's is offering? Culinology sounds so amazing, think food + science. Think McD, KFC, hotdogs, burgers and etc. (At least that is what I think) haha.

This Culinology programme aims at preparing professionals in the field of food product development, able to join and lead he expansion of the food industry regionally and internationally.

Don't laugh k, there is a demand in such profession. It is a different course totally that you might learn from culinary arts or hospitality or even food science. This is the art of producing mass ready made and processed food such as frozen items, soft drinks, canned food, dehydrated food, sauces and etc.

Just imagine, if you were one of the supplier for all Mcd branch in Malaysia. You would already be rich because you have such a big client in hand. :D Think about it, these days, is pretty vital to have ready made food for consumers as we might either be A) don't know how to cook B) lazy to cook C) just taste so good D) camping need something that can last long and easy to carry F) fast and no time.

Malaysia Tries to Rein In Private Education Institutions

KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia’s private higher-education institutions are coming under greater scrutiny, with the government imposing a record number of fines on errant operators this year.

Having expanded rapidly in the last 15 years, the private sector is widely credited with increasing access to higher education in Malaysia, but education experts say standards vary greatly.

While some view the increasing number of fines issued to private providers as cause for concern, others say that they are an indication that regulators are doing a more effective job weeding out inferior companies. And some analysts say the government’s actions are an attempt to safeguard the reputation of the industry.

In a statement, the Ministry of Higher Education said that while it hoped that the private sector would continue to grow, ensuring that providers offered quality education was crucial.

“The challenges are in striking the right balance between promoting growth in higher education in Malaysia and providing quality education,” the ministry said. “This is important because Malaysia is progressing toward becoming a developed nation where knowledge workers are an important element in the agenda for growth and at the same time, Malaysia is also aspiring to become the hub of higher education in the region.”

The statement added that while the government hoped that the private sector would expand further, applications for new institutions would be determined based on whether the institution met the application criteria and whether its proposed programs were “aligned to the critical area needed by the country.”

The ministry issued fines to 47 private education institutions from January to March this year, following regular audits, inspections and complaints from the public. Last year, 48 institutions received fines throughout the year, compared to 9 in 2009. Institutions were fined for a range of infractions, from making false or misleading statements promoting their institutions to offering unaccredited courses and violating registration regulations such as operating on unregistered premises.

Malaysia’s private higher-education sector has expanded rapidly since the government introduced legislation in 1996 to allow the establishment of private universities. Prior to the sector’s liberalization, local private institutions offered programs in conjunction with overseas universities but were unable to award their own degrees.

Since 1996, the number of private universities and colleges that offer degree and nondegree courses has grown substantially, with Malaysia now home to 26 private universities, which offer degrees at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate level.

An additional 23 private “university colleges” offer bachelor’s degrees only, 5 foreign universities from countries like Australia and Britain have established branch campuses and there are more than 400 private colleges that offer diploma and certificate courses.

Part of the aim of liberalizing the higher-education sector was to help increase access to postsecondary education and bolster Malaysia’s “human capital,” said Tham Siew Yean, a professor at the Institute of Malaysian and International Studies at the National University of Malaysia. She said the postsecondary enrollment rate for Malaysians aged 18 to 23 rose to 44 percent in 2010 from 29 percent in 2003, or students enrolled in any type of higher education.

There are now more students studying in the private sector than in public institutions, with private institutions accounting for almost 54 percent.

Ms. Tham said that there was a “tremendous diversity” of programs and that the provision of government loans for private courses had helped increase the number of students studying in the private sector.

Lee Hock Guan, a senior fellow at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies in Singapore, said: “For an average student, it’s not too difficult to get into higher education nowadays in Malaysia. There are so many places competing for them.”

Yet analysts say standards at some private institutions are insufficient while some accuse the government of playing catch-up in its attempt to weed out inferior providers.

“The Ministry of Education does have a problem of quality control,” Mr. Lee said, adding that standards varied greatly between private universities. “There are some that are decent but some that are pretty weak.”

Employers have long complained that graduates from Malaysian universities, public and private, lack vital talents like communication skills.

“We are getting more and more complaints from employers that they are getting students who are not up to the mark,” Mr. Lee said, adding that some institutions enroll students who may not be qualified. “For many of the private universities, they are quite lax because their main thing is they have to enroll as many students as possible in order to generate revenue.”

Mr. Lee contends that the government is monitoring the private sector more closely to ensure that Malaysia’s reputation does not suffer among prospective international students. Malaysia has set the goal of attracting 200,000 international students by 2020.

“Fearing that there will be a drop in foreign students, that has pressured the government to better regulate the private sector,” he said.

Others view the increasing number of fines as a sign that the regulators are doing their job more effectively.

“More fines means they are controlling people who are not doing the right thing,” said Molly Lee, a senior program specialist in higher education at Unesco Asia Pacific in Bangkok. “To me it’s a good sign from the regulatory perspective.”

Ms. Lee, who described Malaysia’s private higher-education sector as “dynamic, innovative and competitive,” said the country was well equipped to monitor private providers.

“I am sure the concern of quality of private institutions is always there,” she said. “I think over time the better ones are gaining a good reputation while the bad ones are being identified by the authorities.”

Ms. Tham, the professor, said that stringent regulations governed the private sector but that before the last two years, there had been little information available about private colleges being fined.

“I would say the ministry perhaps may have had problems being able to monitor the large number of providers,” she said. “I think that it’s good that they are acting on it, that they are able to be more effective in their monitoring.”

Hassan Said, vice chancellor and president of Taylor’s University, one of Malaysia’s oldest private higher-education institutions, which was not among the fined institutions, estimated that only 5 percent of private providers did not comply with government regulations.

“Although the number is small, its impact to the other private providers is pretty bad,” he said in an e-mail. “Hence the move by the ministry to impose stricter monitoring of the private sector is timely and should be supported.”

Taylor’s University, which has 11,700 students, began offering nondegree courses in 1969 and was upgraded to university status last year. The institution began offering degree programs in the 1990s via programs with other universities, before offering its own bachelor degrees in 2006, followed by master’s and doctorate programs last year.

Mr. Hassan said that while the lesser-quality providers could make it more difficult for reputable private institutions because “ the negative perception by stakeholders will be generalized to the whole industry,” students and parents were becoming better equipped to select the quality providers because information about the institutions was widely available.

Parmjit Singh, president of the Malaysian Association of Private Colleges and Universities, said he supported the government’s moves to be more vigilant.

“It will bring integrity to the industry,” he said. “Over the years, there have been colleges that have popped up. My view is some of them should not have been allowed to be registered.”

But Mr. Parmjit said some institutions had made “innocent mistakes” that could result in fines, like not listing the correct course approval code on a brochure.

“One could not generalize and say that all those who have been fined are bad players,” he said.

Mr. Parmjit said that the increase in fines was not indicative of any broader trend within the sector and that “market forces” would force poor-quality providers out of business.

“The bottom line is that market forces are in play,” he said. “If anyone does a poor job, their time will be limited.”

If you are a non-Taylorian, have you heard about the Ink Slingers? Oh come on, they are FAMOUS..... in Taylor's. haha!

If you haven't heard of them before, do allow me to introduce them to you.

The InkSlingers is the official and oldest student-run newspaper of Taylor's University. Its first issue began in 2003 and editions are published once a month under the Taylor's School of Communication.

Basically, they are in charge of writing stuff about Taylor's like events, upcoming issues and etc.

How this Newsletter works is by Degree & Diploma Journalism final year students (depending on situation) come together and keep this paper alive. As University students, of course not every single student is as enthusiastic about extra curriculum. Thus, if you are a journalism student, you are pretty much compulsory to participate in this newsletter creation because it will be credited as an assessment.

I think is great that we have all these little activity to participate because this could really help exercise you writing and reporting skills. At the same time, preparing you for the working world.

Okay, I have to be honest and admit that not every batch of newsletter is great. Some are really bad. Then why am I promoting this? Because I feel that this batch of students handling the current InkSlingers have done some pretty good job with their past two issues. They do not just do it for the sake of doing, but they do it well!

The lecturer in charged is Mr Justin Victor. One amazing lecturer, he can be tough but his classes is darn interesting.

Taylor's Sports Carnival Paralympic!

Taylor’s University Sports Carnival for PWD (Person with Disabilities) is somewhat like the mini version ofParalympic Games. Paralympic Games are elite sports event for athletes with aphysical disability compete, this includes mobility disabilities, amputations,blindness and cerebral palsy. There are two types of Paralympic Games: SummerParalympic Games and Winter Paralympic Games. The movement of Paralympics Games has grown dramatically since its firstdays in 1948. The number of athletes participating in Summer Paralympic Gameshas increased from 400 athletes from 23 countries in Rome in 1960 to 3951 athletes from 146countries in Beijing 2008.

Most of us have no idea about the abilities of the group ofdisabilities; we are thinking that they need our help all the time. Byorganizing the Taylor’s University Sports Carnival for PWD, this is the way tocreate awareness of people about the abilities of the group of disabilities.This is also a chance for them to show their abilities.

A number of disabled organizations andassociations were invited to participate in this event. Among them are theBeautiful Gate Foundation, Damai Association, Cheshire Homes and many more. 5events were designed for Taylor’s University Sports Carnival for PWD such asFutsal, Wheelchair Basketball, Boccia, Carroms and Chess.

Objectives

· Encouragethe people with disabilities to be more confident in doing things that normalpeople can do
· Provideopportunity to the people with disabilities to enjoy,
· Educatethe society to respect the people with disabilities,
· Createawareness to the society that the people with disabilities are able to do thingsthat normal people can do,
· Topromote a special form of sports tourism – Paralympics

I went over to check out the event and they were all so lively and everyone is so enthusiastic. They were having fun with the games or sports held on the day.

Orphanage DaytripTour

Tourismis traveling for predominantly recreational or leisure purposes or theprovision of services to support this leisure travel. It is regarded world wideas an essential part of human life where one has to experience on it. It isimportant for each and every individual to partake and experience it physicallyand mentally. Theyusually need disposable income to spend on the expenditure like transport,accommodation, meals etc.

There are fusion ofactivities that can be seen and done in Colmar Tropicale which contain ofnatural, cultural and heritage. For example, the children can experience theJapanese Village with the special and authentic design of the architecture andenvironment. The children ableto see new culture apart from Malaysian culture and customs: The childrenalso can get a good opportunity to have a close contact with the “real animals”which they seldom see or touch in their daily life. Moreover, there is a botanical garden in Colmar Tropicale withlush rainforest and various tropical flora and fauna. Plus, the children can enjoy the performing artsshowing in the theatre with lots ofdifferent performances for example Chinese acrobatics, magic show. It is dependon the season of the month.

Objectives

· Create anew form of tourism that helps the community
· Show thattourism is not only about traveling yet it helps and shows love to the peoplewho needs care
· Providechance to orphans for experience traveling and care by other people

Taylor's Education Group (TEG) pledged to contribute one million meals to feed the hungry, in conjunction with the World Food Day as part of their CSR project.

It took place simultaneously across four campuses under the TEG umbrella. TCSJ & Sri Hartamas, TU Lakeside and Sri Garden Schools. More that 4000 volunteers from all walks of life as young as 6 years old, contributing their time and energy for the benefit of the hungry all over the world.

In collaboration with the American-based NGO, Stop Hunger Now, the packed food will be distributed to crisis-burdened areas or school feeding programmes locally and around the world including Somalia.

Each meal packet contains six highly-nutritious dehydrated meals of rice, soy, vegetables, flavouring and 21 essential vitamins and minerals, which can be augmented with local spices and flavours.

I went over to subang campus to take a peep on how is their progress. The number of tables were smaller but all of the volunteers we very excited and enthusiastic on this event.

Everyone worked really hard and I am sure all of us had fun especially with upbeat music, some even dancing and singing to it! I manage to get my hands on the weighing counter as my task. I wanted to try helping in all counter but there were sooo many other volunteers waiting in line to help! They literally had to inform those on the counter that their time is up and give others a change to help pack. haha!

I do hope that Taylor's would organize this again next year! For a good cause :)

Share the Love is a Movement about friendship and solidarity. Share a music, share a message, just share the love around.

Love is a powerful word. It evokes feelings of warmth, comfort, peace and being cared for, and it can only be felt when shared.

Through the "Share the Love" movement, they encourage all who believe in love and caring to put it into action.
On the 8.10.2011, they had Finale Concert for a singing contest in Taylor's University. Winner will win RM5000 + RM5000 donated to the World Food day on behalf of the winner.

On the 13 September 2011, a very meaningful event was witness by numerous number of Taylor's Hospitality, Tourism & Culinary arts (TCHT) students on the signing ceremony of the Student Employment Programme, STEP Memorandum of Understanding between Taylor's University and Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

We are proud to have Datuk Peter Brokenshire the General Manager of KLCC, Mr Rohizat Baharum the Director of Human Resource of KLCC and other representative from KLCC to attend this event.

Mr Pradeep Nair, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Taylor's University, gave an opening speech and information on STEP.

17 students will be chosen to join this STEP programme and pursue their industrial training at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). The applicants will undergo quite a number of short-listing before picking on their final 17 students.

Datuk Peter Brokenshire, General Manager of KLCC gave his appreciation speech.

The first batch will start this year, going through industrial training for 4-6 months with workshops and seminars designed for them by the convention centre.

Other than just training, theses 17 students will stand a better chance of getting job offers from the centre.

The signing between both parties with Mr. Neethiananthan Ari Ragavan, Dean of Taylor's School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary arts and Mr Rohizat Baharum signing as witnesses.

Beating over 600 local & international hotels, restaurant & education institution to emerged as the top winners, Taylor's very own TCHT (Taylor's School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts won

13 SILVER

10 BRONZE

and swept away the

Excellence Awards in the F&B section

Most Outstanding Team in Catering Services.

42 members were sent but these are the few prominent participants.

A final year student from Bachelor in Hospitality and Tourism Management programme, Derek Loh Zhengwen being awarded the Best F&B Personnel and RM3000 as he won 3 gold from Mocktail, Cocktail and Table Setting category and 1 silver from Fruit Flambé category .

Issac Yap Chee Chie took home a Gold medal for Fruit Flambé category with his creation called "Smiling Gui Fei"

Julian Tan Kang Peng won a Gold and excellence award in the Table Setting category.

Not forgetting that Taylor's sent their own Chefs for competition too!

Chef Diana Cornwell (right) won Gold for Meat/Poultry Main Course category and Chef Abdul Halim Tumin (left) received bronze in the same category.

Last week was a blur! So many events going on in taylor's and I am running around trying to catch as many as possible. Fine, I guess is just me being crazy as I love attending events and socialise :)

Let's spread the joy of learning and understanding music to the youth.

MIME is a trade show that allows higher learning institution musical instrument retailers and recording studios to display and promote their music courses, products and services all under one roof. Guests attending MIME can enroll in a variety of music classes, purchase quality musical instruments below market price, discover the newest innovations in musical products, recording technology as well as sound and lighting. On the whole, MIME provides a platform for music entrepreneurs to enhance and grow their businesses and for music educators to position their brands (institutions) in the industry.

I was lucky enough to catch a Music Talk by Mr. Hang Dimas, Hujan Keyboardist on 'Indiepreneur'

He talks to us about how indie band can be like and how sometimes rejection from music companies can happen. I can remember well that he said 'Don't do it just because you want fame and money. Do it out of passion.'

Taylor's Merdeka Celebration 2011

Tanggal tiga puluh satu, bulan lapan lima puluh tujuh.......

Okay, maybe it's not exactly on the 31st August. This memorable day was held on the 10th September 2011 at 10am in the Taylor's University Amphitheatre.

I can still remember Mr.Ronson announcing through the speaker that links to all classes and room at about 9.45am informing students, lecturer and staffs regrading this 30 minutes Merdeka Celebration. I was surprised with the turn outs as many students and staffs actually gathered and join the festival.

Before this event, a group of students took the challenge and gotten much support from other students to help in the long banner that was hung on the celebration date! Picture as above.

To understand how the presence of water affects the texture and the physical structures in food thereby influencing the packaging processes.

Taylor's University Inter-Varsity Public Speaking Competition 2011

On the 10th September 2011 (Saturday), a pubic speaking competition was held at Lecture Theatre 2 from 9am to 12pm.

This is the 2nd Inter-Varsity Public Speaking competition 2011, organized by Taylor's School of Communication.

The preliminary round was held on the 10 August 2011. A total of 30 participants from various institutions spoke on the topic "Unity in Diversity". There were 8 chosen to be in the finale but only 6 manage to show up for the battle.

PAPE 2011 = Personal Development Planning (PDP) Awareness & Portfolio Exhibition 2011

The LAS@INTELLECT in tandem with the organizational directive of Taylor's management to ensure continuous development of TGC's and life-long learning skills through creating intentional learners, will be organizing a PAPE 2011 on the 7th September 2011 at the MPH.

The aim of this event is to create awareness among Taylor's University students of PDP and the elements involved in owning and continuously enhancing one's personal development. Besides that, it also showcase all the different Student Portfolios from all the various Programs and Schools within Taylor's University to create visibility & transparency of the different portfolio initiatives, types, and content focus available at Taylor's.

Career services provides career test which will allow you to identify what career suits your personality.
The last time I checked, I'm at the right course! hahaha!

Learning styles booth allows you to find out what is your learning style. Basically, you just got to sit and take a short test. I found out that I am quite a balance learner, means that I am able to absorb through practical, listening as well as watching. However, my visual stands out slightly higher than the other two.

Crowded to see three amazing sports club portfolio. Volleyball, dodgeball and muay thai!

Also, ehem! FlyFM was there to give out more goodies!

Even staff joins in the fun :D!

It is definitely a successful and informative event! We've learned that is not just all about the grades, is also about leadership and initiatives by the students to do something other than just go classes and go home. That is what the employers what these days!

Taylor's University Health Sciences Division recently organised the Science Discovery Day 2011 in August 2011. Over 160 pax of Pre-U, Foundation in Science, UEC to present Form 5 and Form 6 students had the opportunity to visit the science laboratories and facilities in Taylor's University, and also gained a better understanding of the health sciences programmes offered and its career pathways.

TEG World Food Day

Remember my last post regarding TEG World Food Day?
I came across this video and it seems fun and interesting! It gives you a whole idea of how things are done and at the end you can see that the food they packed tasted pretty good. The 375 grams packed food contains 6 meals of soy protein, rice, dried vegtables and nutrint-filled flavoring.

They did one round for food packing in July and managed to packed a whole 10000. I'm gonna give it a go for the next round on the 16th October 2011. They are targeting 1000 volunteers to pack 1 million meal within one day!

Taylor's Sports Faculty invited a special speaker from Institut Sukan Negara Malaysia to give a seminar on nutrition for the sports men and ladies of Taylor's University.

I'm under volleyball club and some other teammates below:

Miss Azimah is the special guest speaker.

So this is what I learn/gather, I jot down some interesting facts.

Guys, your testosterones level is higher in the late evening thus building body will be easier during that time. Girls were advised to build in the morning.
Key factor to lose weight is to do some kind of physical activity. Play it the healthy way.
Not eating causes risk on injuries due to weak muscles.
Ideally, we should only consume 3 ulas(the inside fruit) of durians. Otherwise, it is considered as excessive consumption. hahaha, too bad for durian lovers
Fats in Avocado are good fats.
Males have more lipids around the stomach area while females have more lipids around the butt and thigh area. No wonder I got big thigh!
Female has more body fats compare to males as they contains more water than females. Unfair :(
Fat cells don't decrease in number, it will only shrink but fat cells can increase in number. so sad
Mayo made up of egg yolk + oil = FAT!!!!!
Napping should not be more than one hour. Crap.... I sleep too much

TEG World Food Day, Taylor's Science Discovery Day, SOC New Programmes!

Fuh! So many updates this week and I can't go in detail for each because my classes just started. I will place the link for each announcements below:

World Hunger Crisis:
Here at Taylor's, we believe strongly in service: not only to our students and our country, but to the world as a whole. Hunger and malnutrition are at the forefront of urgent problems in the world today, especially with the current Somalian crisis. Over a billion people on our earth go hungry every day, and malnutrition plays a role in more than half of all childhood deaths. We believe that this is a severe and urgent problem. More importantly, we believe that all of us are part of the solution.
Thus, Taylor's Education Group (TEG) has pledged to pack and donate 1,000,000 meals through TEG World Food Day, when we will hold a series of Meal Packaging Events at Taylor's University and Taylor's College campuses as well as Garden International School and Nexus International School on 16 October 2011. Each pack consists of 6 meals. Partnered with NGOs such as Stop Hunger Now and Food for the Hungry International, we aim to pack 166,667 packs (or 1,000,000 meals) to be distributed to crisis-burdened areas or school feeding programmes.

Our lake is finally utilized!

Fishing competition was held on the 30 July 2011. It's a Saturday morning and everyone was so ready with their fishing rods in hoping to catch the biggest fish! The twist is that you don't get to keep the fish, it will be released back to the lake. :)

It will be so cool if they allowed students to fish on other days xD

'Confind' Graduation Showcase

The pioneer batch of Diploma in Graphic Communication Design students GRADUATED! CONGRATULATIONS!

All their two and a half years of hard work finally paid off and was showcased entitled 'Confind' at their Graduate Showcase.
